Artist's Statement
Dr Ron Lawson works under the name Stanson and has a Doctorate in Arts-based Transformative Learning, an MBA and an MA in Contemporary Fine Art. In his work Stanson explores the notion of ‘being in the world’ and the concepts of ‘the subject and the object’, ‘the human and the thing’. He uses an autoethnographical approach in his practice, making sense of who he is as a creative human, being present in the world through his paintings, sculptures and artefacts, inviting viewers engaging with his work to do the same in a reflexive recognition of the shared human condition. Stanson builds upon a heritage of industrial and fine art techniques to create his contemporary expressionistic works that bare witness to the marks and the scars of the creative process, symbolic evidence of being in the world.
